Courthouse Facility Dogs

Prosecutor offices across the country are enlisting the help of trained courthouse facility dogs to provide comfort and support to vulnerable witnesses and victims throughout various stages of the criminal justice process. These dogs undergo at least a two-year training period and are specifically bred to detect a person’s stress level.

Robert M. Morgenthau was the District Attorney of New York County (Manhattan) from 1975 to 2010.  He was legendary for his intelligence, integrity and courage.  He was ahead of his time and led the way for today’s modern prosecutors.

Manhattan District Attorney’s Office (New York, NY)

The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office (DANY) is using Innovative Prosecution Solution (IPS) grant funds to enhance intelligence-driven prosecution by modernizing its Crime Strategies Unit (CSU) and increasing the technical toolbox of DANY prosecutors.

The South Carolina Commission on Prosecution Coordination (Columbia, South Carolina)

The South Carolina Commission on Prosecution Coordination (SCCPC) is using an IPS grant to  develop a prosecution data collection system which will automate the crime data reporting process. The new system will standardize data entry from 16 different prosecution offices in the jurisdiction, enhancing SCCPC’s ability to analyze and distribute data to the state legislature and other criminal justice partners.  In addition, SCCPC is also hiring additional staff to assist with database administration and to liaison with prosecution offices.

Fulton County District Attorney’s Office (Atlanta, GA)

The Fulton County District Attorney (FCDA) is using IPS grant funds to hire a designated investigator and contract with FileOnQ to build an evidence storage system for the thousands of case files and pieces of evidence it has retained over the years as the designated custodian of evidence for all criminal trials in the county.

Easton Baton Rouge Office of the District Attorney (Baton Rouge, LA)

Using IPS funding, the East Baton Rouge District Attorney’s Office (EBRDA) aims to enhance its Crime Strategies Unit (CSU) and Violent Crimes Unit (VCU) by hiring a dedicated prosecutor and a specialized criminal intelligence analyst to focus exclusively on non-fatal shooting incidents, increasing collaboration with crime data providers, and enhancing victim services.

Cuyahoga County Office of the Prosecuting Attorney (Cleveland, OH)

Through an Innovative Prosecutions Solutions (FY19 IPS) grant the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office’s (CCPO) will invest in technology and improved analytical software to enhance the capabilities of their Crime Strategies Unit (CSU) and hire an analyst to focus CSU resources on repeat violent offenders and high crime areas.

St. Louis County District Attorney’s Office (Duluth, MN)

Through IPS funding, the St. Louis County Attorney’s Office (SLCAO) will replace its current case management system with Prosecutor by Karpel (PBK). The current system that serves St. Louis County, the largest geographic county in Minnesota, is outdated and inefficient.  With the investment in PBK, the site will collect data to develop statistically supported prosecution strategies and policies that will be designed to combat specific criminal trends at a community level.
